Eastern Himalayan Global Environmental Ambassador

GUWAHATI, Nov 03: Globally famous and world record holder mountaineer Dr. Anshu Jamsenpa was honoured with ‘Eastern Himalayan Global Environmental Ambassador’, instituted by Balipara Foundation, at a function here Saturday evening.
The award was conferred by world-renowned wildlife researcher and veterinarian Dr. K.K. Sarma to thunderous applause of over 1000 delegates from 13 nations including USA, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan and China.
The 6th edition of Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum and the award function was beamed worldwide live by Jio Digital with over 220 million viewership.
“We need to conserve nature and take up more plantation to preserve the ecology and improve economy of the region to cope up with prevailing deteriorating environment and economic conditions”, Dr Anshu, a Himalayan lover, said in her acceptance speech.
“I’m honoured and at the same time it’s my responsibility to spread the message for conservation. I congratulate the Balipara Foundation for playing a significant role in conservation of the eco-system,” a visibly moved Anshu said.
She wished Balipara Foundation founder-trustee Ranjit Barthakur and his team all the best in their nature conservation effort by planting seven million trees in the border landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh, Bhutan and Assam.
Indian scholar and inspirational leader, Dr Vandana Shiva, in his keynote address, highlighted the importance of organic farming for rural futures and to conserve the web of life.
Oxford historian Mark Davies and UK’s Royal Overseas League Diana Owen spoke about the rich heritage of Eastern Himalayas and synergizing education, art and tourism for community development.
Lt. Gen Arun Sahni, Lisa Mills, University of Montana, Vishal Massey, Club of Rome, Sunayana Sarkar, NMIMS University, Md. Maksudur Rahman, Bangladesh Environment & Development Society, Dietrich Schmidt-Vogt, University of Freiburg, Misako Namiki, Teikyo University, Japan; Bittu Sahgal, Sanctuary Asia and others spoke on various topics related to rural futures & environment.
